Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. Set aside.
-
In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, sweetened condensed milk, and salt over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the butter melts.
-
Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. The mixture should reach about 240°F (soft ball stage).
-
Continue to cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens and turns a light caramel color. This can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes.
-
Remove the pan from the heat and quickly stir in the vanilla extract. Be careful as the mixture will be extremely hot.
-
Pour the hot mixture into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Allow it to cool at room temperature for about 1-2 hours.
-
Once the Tablet has set and cooled completely, use the parchment paper overhang to lift it out of the pan.
-
Cut the Tablet into small squares or rectangles using a sharp knife. Store the pieces in an airtight container at room temperature.
