Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. Set aside.

  2. In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, sweetened condensed milk, and salt over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the butter melts.

  3. Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. The mixture should reach about 240°F (soft ball stage).

  4. Continue to cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens and turns a light caramel color. This can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes.

  5. Remove the pan from the heat and quickly stir in the vanilla extract. Be careful as the mixture will be extremely hot.

  6. Pour the hot mixture into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Allow it to cool at room temperature for about 1-2 hours.

  7. Once the Tablet has set and cooled completely, use the parchment paper overhang to lift it out of the pan.

  8. Cut the Tablet into small squares or rectangles using a sharp knife. Store the pieces in an airtight container at room temperature.
